sleep deprived

Whoever invented insomnia should be shot! Its a awful thing. Lying awake sensing that the sun has risen and you haven't yet fallen asleep. And then hearing the brids chirping cos its the wee hours in morning and you know you should be up soon. I have not been able to fall alseep before 3am for about 3 weeks now. It is slowly driving me to the verge of insanity.

Any ideas/remedies anyone??

Hi Karen

Im not sure if I have any remedies, but I wanted to let you know that I SO understand what you're talking about!!

Never before have chirping birds and your bedroom slowly getting lighter been so scarey!

Now, Im not advocating sleeping tablets - but - I went to the dr because i couldnt stand it any longer, and it was starting to make me feel anxious during the day. The dr. only gave me 5 tabs, and they are very mild, and help you to FALL asleep, not keep you asleep, so you wake up feeling refreshed.

The moral of that story is that I was given 5 tabs a year ago, and only took the last one the other night. Its some sort of psycological thing for me - I didnt have to worry about falling asleep because I knew that if push came to shove, i could take half a tab and fall asleep. That knowledge alone made me relax and fall asleep naturally.

Also, maybe some evaluation might need to go on to establish WHY you are having trouble falling asleep over the last 3 weeks? What is new in your life? What has changed? Sometimes they can be small or seemingly insignificant things, but its good to have a small and gently sift through the old mind and see what you can come up with.

Hope that helps,
Debs

I too know how you feel. I have a naturally active mind and when im trying to fall asleep I'll start to think about something to relax me. My brain automatically starts to think about omething I was working on that day, or a project or invention I've had rolling around in my head for weeks. Once this happens I know I may aswell get up and get on the computer, beause I won't be able to sleep till at least 2 or 3am.

I found, only occasionally though, that herbal tea helps, valerian root (hope I spelt it right) helps.

Getting exercise during the day.

For me, I feel really tired around 7 or 8pm, but then after that I get a second wind and am up half the night. Going to bed this early can be good cause you wake up around 5 or 6am and that night your tie=red and can actually sleep, almost like jump starting your sleeping cycles.

Hope this could help.
